Sensex Drops 1,124 Points as Nifty Slips Below 23,000

Indian stock markets closed sharply lower on Monday, 28 September, as investors turned cautious and sold across sectors. The benchmark Sensex fell 1,124.02 points to close at 72,771.72, while the Nifty dropped 360.25 points to end at 22,780.25.
The fall marked one of the weakest single-day performances for the benchmarks in recent weeks. Broad-based selling hit banking, information technology and metal stocks the hardest. Market breadth stayed negative, with far more shares declining than advancing on both exchanges.
Analysts said the slide reflected a mix of weak global cues and profit booking after a strong run. Foreign investors stayed on the selling side, adding to the pressure on blue-chip stocks. The fall pushed the Nifty below the 23,000 mark, a level closely watched by traders.
Investors are now looking ahead to upcoming economic data and global market moves for direction. Experts advised caution, saying near-term volatility could continue as markets digest the sharp correction.
