NPS Swasthya launched: pension plus health cover in one

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority has launched NPS Swasthya, a first-of-its-kind product that combines retirement pension with health insurance. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched it on NPS Diwas, October 1, 2026.
The product bundles a National Pension System account with a family floater super top-up health policy. It covers the subscriber, spouse and up to two dependent children. Parents are not covered, though this is under review.
Subscribers can choose from combinations of deductible and insured sums. These include a 10,000-rupee deductible with 1 lakh cover, a 50,000-rupee deductible with 5 lakh cover, a 1 lakh deductible with 10 lakh cover, and a 3 lakh deductible with 30 lakh cover.
The scheme allows up to 25 percent withdrawal for outpatient and inpatient care. The minimum pension investment is 1,000 rupees, plus a 200-rupee health assurance fee.
The product was developed in consultation with the insurance regulator to make retirement savings and health protection simpler for one household.
