Nayara Energy hikes petrol by Rs 5, diesel by Rs 3 from today

Nayara Energy, India’s largest private fuel retailer, has raised petrol prices by Rs 5 per litre and diesel by Rs 3 per litre with immediate effect, people familiar with the matter said. The revised rates took effect from the early hours of Saturday at its 7,108 fuel stations across the country, according to the Hindu BusinessLine and PTI reports.
The company is narrowing the gap between retail prices and rising international oil and refined-product costs, sources said. Nayara was the first retailer to pass on the surge in global oil prices to consumers when the US-Iran conflict disrupted energy supplies earlier this year.
On March 26, it had raised petrol by Rs 5 and diesel by Rs 3 a litre, taking rates to Rs 100.71 and Rs 91.31 respectively. It reversed that increase on July 1 after crude prices eased, the first retail fuel price cut in more than two years.
State-owned retailers, which run about 90 per cent of India’s 104,000 pumps, have kept pump prices largely unchanged. The gap puts fresh pressure on consumers who fill up at private stations.
The move signals renewed cost pressure on fuel retailers as global energy markets stay unsettled.
