Jet Fuel Prices Jump 13% Amid Rising Crude Costs

Jet fuel prices in India jumped 13% from October 1, as state-owned oil companies raised aviation turbine fuel by Rs 16 per litre to Rs 137 per litre for domestic airlines.
The hike, the third consecutive monthly increase, follows a Rs 5 per litre rise in August and Rs 6.28 in September. The revision tracks international benchmark prices and the rupee-dollar exchange rate, with Brent crude settling around $98 a barrel on September 30.
Commercial LPG also got costlier, with the 19-kg cylinder rising Rs 62.50. Domestic LPG and petrol-diesel prices were unchanged.
Aviation fuel accounts for up to 40% of an airline’s operating costs. No domestic airline has announced fare hikes yet, but carriers must decide whether to absorb the cost or pass it on during the festive season.
Why it matters: airfares are now under pressure just as holiday travel demand picks up.
