Infosys to Move One-Third of Staff Into Specialist Roles

Infosys plans to move between a quarter and a third of its more than 320,000 employees into specialist roles. The Bengaluru-based IT company also wants to build a team of about 6,000 frontier engineers.
The plans were discussed at Infosys’s annual Americas Confluence in Washington, DC. Company partners, advisers and analysts attended the three-day event last week.
The specialist roles will focus on AI, data, advanced engineering and clients’ industry domains. The frontier engineers will support advanced technology and AI-driven client projects.
Infosys is recruiting specialised talent from leading Indian institutes and US campuses. It is competing with AI companies and research organisations for highly skilled engineers.
An executive presentation showed that 270,000 employees had received AI training. About 80,000 were engaged in working with coding tools. The company’s FY26 ESG report confirms a Y-shaped career model with generalist and specialist paths.
CEO Salil Parekh and CEO-designate Ashiss Kumar Dash shared the stage to discuss generating value from AI. The company acknowledged that AI is changing both the skills required and how projects are priced.
