Airtel hikes postpaid tariffs up to 10%, adds free annual roaming

Bharti Airtel has raised its postpaid tariffs by 3-10%, effective October 8, while bundling a free international roaming trip per SIM every year.
The entry-level individual plan moves from Rs 449 to Rs 499, and the five-SIM family plan rises from Rs 1,749 to Rs 1,799 with a Netflix Standard subscription.
Every plan now includes one complimentary international roaming pack per year offering 5GB data, 60 minutes of calls and 25 outgoing SMS valid for five days.
Airtel has about 30 million postpaid users, around 8% of its India mobile base of 376.5 million. The company’s shares rose 1.29% to Rs 1,833.90 on the NSE after the announcement.
Motilal Oswal retained its buy rating with a price target of Rs 2,250, citing improved cash flows and premiumisation.
The hike is the first postpaid tariff revision in over two years and could prompt rivals Jio and Vodafone Idea to follow. Analysts expect the telecom sector to see a broader 15% tariff increase in December.
