Wind Capacity Hits 59GW as Joshi Opens Windergy 2026

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurated Windergy India 2026 in Chennai on October 8, announcing that India’s installed wind capacity has reached about 59GW.
India added a record 6.05GW of wind capacity in FY25-26. Another 28GW is under implementation, putting the country on track for its 100GW target by 2030.
Industry leaders at the event said 300GW of wind capacity is achievable by 2035. A repowering pilot will upgrade or replace 20 to 25GW of older turbines with modern machines.
The three-day expo has more than 400 exhibitors from over 20 countries. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay was expected to attend.
Joshi said wind power is central to India’s clean energy goals. Falling tariffs and better technology have made wind one of the cheapest sources of new electricity in the country.
Windergy India is the country’s flagship wind energy trade fair, organised by the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association. It showcases the latest turbines, blades and grid solutions.
