IMD Orange Alert: Heavy Rain in UP, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for October 8 and 9 for Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in these regions over the two days. The IMD said Uttar Pradesh has already received the heaviest rain in the last two days, with Kheri and Gorakhpur recording between 120 and 240 mm. One station in the state recorded extremely heavy rainfall.
Delhi received moderate rain on Wednesday. Safdarjung recorded 25 mm while all 12 monitoring stations in the capital received some rainfall. The IMD expects no significant rainfall in Delhi from October 10, though skies will stay cloudy.
Alerts are also in place for West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat for Thursday.
The downpour caused waterlogging in several parts of Delhi and slowed traffic. Police advised commuters to avoid stretches affected by waterlogging and to plan their journeys.
Residents in the alert zones are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from waterlogged areas and follow advisories issued by local authorities.
