IIT Bombay Students Begin Hunger Strike Over Death

Students at IIT Bombay began a hunger strike on October 2, intensifying their 14-day protest over the death of second-year student Sahil Wakode.
The 20-year-old BTech student was found dead in his hostel room on September 18, hours after an incident during a mid-semester exam. The students are demanding an independent external investigation into his death.
Their demands include the resignation of Director Shireesh Kedare and the suspension of Professor Suryanarayana Doolla until the criminal probe is complete. They also want the institute’s internal inquiry panel replaced with an external one.
The Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the case and has registered an FIR under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. No arrests have been reported.
The students marched to the main gate and submitted an 18-point charter of demands. They said the administration has not officially responded so far. If you are in distress, counselling is available at Tele MANAS 14416.
