At least 56 people have died and 46 have been injured in rain- and storm-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh since Friday, officials said on Sunday. Several districts are facing a flood-like situation after an intense three-day wet spell.

According to the relief commissioner's office, the deaths occurred between September 25 and the morning of September 27. Sitapur reported the highest toll at seven, followed by Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich and Balrampur with five each. Over 1,000 houses were damaged.

The state received 45.1 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending Sunday, against a normal of 1.8 mm. The Central Water Commission said 30 river-monitoring stations across seven states indicated a severe situation, with the Ghagra, Rapti, Ganga and Gandak flowing above danger levels at several points.

The depression over the state weakened into a low-pressure area on Sunday, bringing some respite, but rescue teams continue to evacuate people from waterlogged areas. The administration remains on alert as river levels rise.

Relief officials have been asked to assess crop damage and ensure quick compensation for affected families in the coming days.
