OpenAI is offering a limited-time one-month free trial of ChatGPT Plus to some users in India, where the plan normally costs Rs 1,999 per month. The promotion is not available on every account.

Eligible users see a “Claim free offer” option under the ChatGPT Plus plan, with the price shown as Rs 0 for the first month instead of the standard charge. Users must still provide payment details, and the plan auto-renews as a paid subscription unless cancelled.

Reports suggest the offer is account-specific. Accounts that had never subscribed to a paid plan saw the free offer, while accounts with prior paid subscriptions showed the regular Rs 1,999 price.

This follows OpenAI’s earlier free one-year ChatGPT Go access in India. The move is seen as an attempt to widen premium adoption in the price-sensitive Indian market.

The promotion aims to attract more users in the Indian market. OpenAI earlier made ChatGPT Go free in India. Reports say some users were not offered the deal at all.
