Two new worlds found: a lava planet and a possible haven

Astronomers have confirmed two planets around the star TOI-1752, about 337 light-years from Earth. One is a blistering lava world. The other sits in the star’s habitable zone, where liquid water could exist. The discovery was made by a team from the Teide Observatory in Spain, using data from NASA’s TESS space telescope.

The planets orbit an M1-type red dwarf, a star smaller, cooler and dimmer than our Sun.The inner planet, TOI-1752 b, is 1.69 times the size of Earth and races around its star in just 0.935 days. Its surface is likely molten rock. The outer planet, TOI-1752 c, is 2.29 times Earth’s size and takes 32.7 days per orbit. Researchers place it in the “optimistic habitable zone” with an estimated temperature of about 18 degrees Celsius.

It may hold a substantial atmosphere.Scientists say the pairing is a natural laboratory for studying how distance from a star shapes planets. Both worlds are now high-priority targets for atmospheric study.
