ISRO’s NVS-03 NavIC satellite eyes mid-October launch

ISRO is preparing to launch the NVS-03 navigation satellite in mid-October, according to reports. The launch window is said to be between October 15 and 20. The satellite will fly on the GSLV-F18 rocket from Sriharikota.
NVS-03 is part of the NavIC system, India’s own regional navigation network. NavIC needs four working satellites for full service. Right now only three are fully operational. The NVS-02 satellite failed in January 2025, leaving a gap in coverage.
NVS-03 carries an indigenous rubidium atomic clock. Accurate clocks are the heart of any navigation system. Officials have not formally confirmed the launch date yet.
A successful launch will restore full NavIC coverage over India and the region. NavIC is used in transport, surveying and strategic applications. It also cuts India’s reliance on foreign navigation signals.
A formal launch date is expected from ISRO soon. The indigenous rubidium clock on board is a key technology milestone for the programme. Once operational, the satellite will join the three working NavIC satellites in orbit. Space watchers said the mission is critical for the navigation programme’s future.
