SpaceX Crew-13 sets US record with eight-hour sprint to ISS

SpaceX’s Crew-13 mission docked with the International Space Station just under eight hours after launch, setting a US record for the fastest trip to the orbiting lab, according to science reports this week.
The rapid rendezvous is a milestone for crew operations. Faster trips mean astronauts spend less time in the cramped capsule before reaching the station.
The mission also made history for its commander. Jessica Watkins became the first Black woman to command a space mission, a landmark for NASA and the US space programme.
The crew launched aboard a SpaceX rocket and completed the docking without issues. The eight-hour sprint beats the previous US record for a crewed flight to the station.
Faster crew transfers could shape future mission planning. As space agencies and private companies fly more often, squeezing the transit time reduces strain on astronauts and frees up more of the mission for science on board the station.
