Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday launched a series of digital and financial management initiatives at the Defence Accounts Department’s 279th Annual Day. The event was held at DRDO Bhawan in New Delhi. Singh launched the integration of the Indian Army Financial Information System, or IAFIS, with the department’s SAKSHAM platform. This will allow digital transfer of budget, sanction and bill data between the two systems. He also launched the revamped National Compilation System and the PRISM platform for Treasury Single Account payments in the Defence Ministry. The minister urged the department to move from an ‘Annual Review of Balance Budget’ to an ‘Any Time Review of Balance Budget’, with real-time updates of financial data. He noted that defence expenditure booking had reached nearly 100 per cent in the financial year 2025-26. Singh also released the Comprehensive Statistical Handbook on Defence Expenditure 2026 and a short film on SPARSH, the digital pension system.
