Qualcomm unveils two new Snapdragon flagship AI chips

Qualcomm has unveiled two new flagship mobile platforms, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, built around on-device AI.
Announced at Snapdragon Summit 2026, both chips are manufactured on a 2nm process. The Gen 6's Oryon CPU includes two prime cores running up to 5GHz, with Qualcomm claiming 10 per cent better CPU performance and 37 per cent better power efficiency than the previous generation.
The higher-end Extreme Gen 6 introduces Adreno Neural Fusion, which folds AI super resolution and frame generation into the graphics pipeline for richer gaming visuals. The Hexagon NPU boosts on-device AI for cameras and personal agents.
Smartphones using the chips will come from Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, vivo and Xiaomi, and will compete with Apple's A20 Pro. Qualcomm shares ended the regular session about 2 per cent higher before edging lower after hours.
The launch matters because on-device AI is becoming the main battleground of flagship phones. Whoever owns the chip owns the experience.
