Trump orders US agencies to call AI ‘Super Intelligence’

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing federal agencies to use the term Super Intelligence instead of Artificial Intelligence.
The order, signed on September 29, says the executive branch shall use Super Intelligence and SI in place of Artificial Intelligence and AI to the maximum extent permitted by law.
It covers official correspondence, websites, reports and policy documents. It does not require rewriting old regulations, contracts or historical documents.
For now, Super Intelligence keeps the same legal definition as artificial intelligence under existing law. The change is about the label, not the technology.
The order gives the White House science adviser 60 days to draft proposed legal language for a federal definition of Super Intelligence.
Trump first floated the idea at the United Nations on September 22. He argued the word artificial makes the technology sound fake, while it is very powerful.
Researchers note the term already has a specific meaning in AI science: systems smarter than humans, which do not yet exist.
