Maruti Suzuki September sales rise 24.4% to 2.36 lakh units

Maruti Suzuki’s total sales rose 24.4 per cent year-on-year to 2,36,013 units in September as dealers stocked up ahead of the festive season.
Domestic passenger vehicle dispatches jumped 36.9 per cent to 1,81,838 units. Utility vehicle sales surged 62 per cent to 78,911 units, the company said on Thursday.
Exports grew 4.8 per cent to 44,219 units. The company manufactured 2,38,091 passenger vehicles during the month, about 20 per cent more than a year earlier.
Senior executive Partho Banerjee said pending bookings exceed two lakh and sentiment is very bullish. Dealer inventory covers only 17 days of sales, he said, below the 30 days preferred for the festive season.
Tata Motors passenger vehicle sales rose 15 per cent to 70,210 units. Hyundai reported its highest-ever monthly total of 77,916 units.
The company expects the industry to grow about 10 per cent this year. Growth may slow after October because of a high base from last year’s post-GST-cut surge.
