ECI Form 6 row explained: what the SIR fight is about

Rahul Gandhi’s attack on the Election Commission has put the spotlight on Form 6 and the SIR. Here is what the fight is about.
Form 6 is the application new voters use to get their names on the electoral roll. The Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, is a large-scale revision of voter lists.
An additional declaration was added to the online Form 6 on the ECINET portal. It asked whether the applicant’s name, or that of a parent or grandparent, appeared in the previous SIR electoral roll.
Two Election Commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, reportedly objected to how the change was made. The ECI says the statutory Form 6 was unchanged and the addition was an SIR annexure.
On September 30, the ECI removed the declaration in states where the SIR is complete. It stays in states where the revision continues.
Gandhi has asked who at the ECI ordered TCS to make the change and whether anyone was pressured. The INDIA bloc will march to the ECI on October 6.
