The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for 22 states on Wednesday, September 30, as an active monsoon system moves across the country. Thunderstorms with gusty winds of up to 70 km/h are expected in several regions. Delhi, Noida and Gurugram are expected to see rain and thunderstorms, with the capital’s maximum temperature around 33°C and minimum around 22°C. The alert comes on the last day of the 2026 monsoon season, which has ended with a 13 per cent rainfall deficit. The IMD has advised residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid waterlogged areas. The weather office said conditions were becoming favourable for the withdrawal of the monsoon from northwest India. Context: The monsoon season officially runs from June 1 to September 30 in India. The weather office said a fresh western disturbance could bring more rain to northern India next week. Residents were advised to check weather updates before travelling.
