B T Arasakumar, the prime accused in the alleged ₹100-crore private school approvals fraud, was granted default bail by a special court in Chennai on Tuesday after the investigating agency failed to file its chargesheet within 90 days. Special Judge L S Sathiyamurthy noted that 92 days had elapsed since his June 27 arrest. Arasakumar was released on a ₹25,000 bond with two sureties. He must report to the police daily. The case involves allegations that money was collected from 177 private schools across Tamil Nadu by promising permanent recognition and approvals, using proximity to the then ruling dispensation. On Tuesday, the CCB searched five premises linked to Arasakumar, relatives of another accused and associates of former school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. A laptop and 44 documents were seized. On Monday, the Madras High Court had quashed his detention under the Goondas Act. Context: The case is sensitive because it names a former minister, and all allegations are under investigation.
