Delhi’s political row over an alleged slap incident escalated on Monday, with an NCR filed against minister Parvesh Verma and an FIR against AAP MLA Jarnail Singh over alleged obstruction.

The case stems from claims that Verma was slapped during a public event, triggering protests by BJP workers. Police registered a non-cognisable report against the minister’s side of the narrative while acting on cross-complaints.

AAP leaders, including Saurabh Bhardwaj and Jarnail Singh, were detained during demonstrations in Tilak Nagar, reports said. Police said the FIR against Singh relates to alleged obstruction of officials on duty.

Both parties traded blame through the day. The BJP accused AAP of shielding the attacker; AAP called the police action politically motivated and demanded a fair probe.

With videos of the incident circulating online, police said they are examining footage. The episode has added fresh fuel to the capital’s already bitter political fight. Police said further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
