India wins eight medals as athletics leads the rush

India won eight medals on 28 September at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, taking its total tally to 45. The country stands 12th on the medal table with four gold, 20 silver and 21 bronze.
Athletics led the day with seven podium finishes. Murali Sreeshankar won silver in the men’s long jump with 8.07 metres. Gulveer Singh took silver in the 1500m in a personal best of 3:36.72.
Yashvir Singh won javelin silver with a personal best of 85.72m, while Rohit Yadav took bronze at 84.35m. Vithya Ramraj won bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles in 54.75 seconds, breaking PT Usha’s 42-year-old national record.
Parul Chaudhary added bronze in the women’s 5000m in 15:14.61. Esha Singh won silver in the women’s 25m pistol, and Pincky Balhara took bronze in kurash.
Three Indian boxers reached the semifinals, assuring more medals. The focus now shifts to turning silver and bronze into gold.
