Cooper Connolly produced a moment of fielding brilliance to dismiss South Africa captain Aiden Markram off the very first ball of the second ODI against Australia.

At The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday, Josh Hazlewood bowled short and wide outside off. Markram threw his hands at it, and the ball flew toward cover point. Connolly leaped to his left at full stretch and plucked the ball one-handed, leaving South Africa 0 for 1 with no run on the board.

Markram was out for a golden duck, becoming the sixth South African batter to be dismissed on the first ball of an ODI match. Australia captain Mitchell Marsh had won the toss and elected to bowl first.

South Africa came into the match leading the three-match series 1-0 after winning the opener at Kingsmead by 67 runs, with Markram returning to the side for the second game.

The catch, shared widely on social media, was hailed as an early contender for catch of the series and set the tone for the day at the Wanderers.
