Romanian club FCSB could seek compensation from Manchester City. The claim goes back to their 2016-17 Champions League playoff tie.

City beat FCSB 6-0 on aggregate that August. The result sent the Bucharest club into the Europa League instead of the Champions League group stage. FCSB earned about 5 million euros from the Europa League run.

Romanian outlet iAM Sport reports the club could have earned roughly 13.7 million euros more in the Champions League. That figure includes the group-stage fees and market pool money from that season.

The argument rests on City’s financial fair play case. English clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham are already weighing compensation claims over City’s rule breaches between 2009 and 2018.

A lawyer told Antena Sport that FCSB could make a claim if it can prove its path to the Champions League groups was blocked by facing City. It remains unclear whether clubs outside England can bring such cases.
