FBI tracked Wiles phone records in Biden-era Trump documents probe

Newly released documents show the Biden-era FBI tracked the phone records of Susie Wiles during the classified documents investigation. Wiles is now President Trump’s chief of staff.
The documents were released by the White House on Monday. They describe an investigation internally called Plasmic Echo. It later became the probe led by special counsel Jack Smith.
Agents tracked Wiles’ phone metadata from at least February to May 2023, Fox News reported. They logged who called her, whom she called and how long the calls lasted. Her contacts included at least 21 attorneys, campaign staff and journalists.
The records also show agents tracked the travel of Melania Trump and Barron Trump while planning the 2022 search of Mar-a-Lago. The search covered Trump’s office and storage rooms.
The monitoring involved call details, not the content of conversations. Former Democratic counsel Julian Epstein called the surveillance Nixonian. The White House called it a disgraceful abuse of power.
