Trump honours Musk, Nadella, Brin, Huang at US science awards
President Donald Trump presented top US science and technology medals to leading tech executives on Thursday. The ceremony was held at a summit called Science: A New Golden Age.
Elon Musk received the National Medal of Science. Trump called him the modern day Thomas Edison. Sergey Brin, Jensen Huang and Lisa Su also received the science medal.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Dell CEO Michael Dell received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. The White House said the awards recognise contributions to America’s leadership in innovation.
Almost all the recipients or their companies have donated to Trump’s campaign, inauguration fund or the White House ballroom project, reports said. Musk gave 291 million dollars to support Trump and Republicans in 2024.
Last week Trump hosted the same executives to sign an AI safety accord. He said the companies should regulate themselves on artificial intelligence. The White House said the summit focused on super intelligence and private-sector investment. This was Trump’s first time presenting the medals in his administration.
