Oregon’s oldest man turns 108, shares his simple secrets

Beryl Dillman, believed to be the oldest man in Oregon, has celebrated his 108th birthday with family at his assisted living home in Eugene.
Dozens gathered at Merrill Gardens as Dillman blew out candles on a large cake under blue balloons spelling 108. “You don’t know what it’s like to be 100-plus. I’ve found out, and I like it!” he said.
His secrets are simple. “Part of the secret is to be careful what you drink and eat,” he told Oregon Public Broadcasting. He never drank alcohol and keeps a clean diet. He also credits a good mind and a positive attitude. Family members travelled long distances to attend the celebration, including a grandson who drove 11 hours to be there.
Dillman has two daughters, six grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. His 72-year-old daughter Ruth Sturges said he has always been a cheerful problem solver.
Context: he uses a walker to get around but stays sharp and loves meeting people.
