Kalki Koechlin’s Her Song eyes Oscars 2027 race

Actor Kalki Koechlin has announced that her short film “Her Song” is in contention for the Oscars 2027 race in the live-action short film category. She shared the news with fans on Instagram.
The film, shot in Ladakh, has qualified for consideration at the 99th Academy Awards. Qualification means it is eligible for the shortlist, not that it has been nominated.
Koechlin, known for films like “Dev D” and “Margarita with a Straw,” said she was proud of the team behind the project. Details of the film’s plot have been kept under wraps.
Indian short films have gained global attention in recent years. “Her Song” will hope to follow in the footsteps of Indian entries that have made the Oscar shortlists. The Academy will announce the shortlists for the 99th Oscars early next year, with nominations to follow.
Indian short films have shone at the Oscars before, with “The Elephant Whisperers” winning Best Documentary Short in 2023. A live-action shortlisting would be another milestone for Indian independent cinema.
