Non-Life Insurance Premiums Grow 8.9% in H1

Non-life insurers in India collected premiums of Rs 1,79,712 crore in the first half of FY27, growing 8.92 percent over last year. Data released this week shows broad-based growth.
Excluding specialised insurers, premium growth was even stronger at 11.7 percent, reaching Rs 1,76,105 crore. Standalone health insurers grew 30.69 percent to Rs 25,586 crore.
Among private general insurers, HDFC ERGO grew 26 percent, Tata AIG 25 percent, IFFCO-Tokio 19 percent and SBI General 21 percent. Private insurers together collected Rs 1,50,518 crore, up nine percent.
The agriculture segment remained weak, falling 57.2 percent to Rs 2,866 crore. The crop insurance business has seen sharp swings in recent years.
Overall, the numbers point to healthy demand for health and motor insurance. Analysts expect growth to stay in double digits if economic activity holds up through the second half.
Public sector general insurers also posted steady numbers, though private players continue to gain market share. Motor insurance remains the largest segment, followed by health.
