Adani, Druk Green Sign 770MW Bhutan Hydro Deal

Adani Power and Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation have signed a shareholders’ agreement for the 770MW Chamkharchhu-I hydropower project. The deal was signed in Thimphu on October 6.
The project will be developed as a joint venture, with Adani Power holding 49 percent and Druk Green 51 percent. It will be built on the Chamkarchhu river in Zhemgang district.
The project follows the BOOT model, with a concession period of 30 years. Construction is expected to start in the first half of 2027, and commissioning is targeted within six years.
This is Adani Power’s second project in Bhutan after the 570MW Wangchhu project signed in September 2025. Both are part of a 5,000MW clean energy partnership agreed in May 2025.
Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay attended the signing. The project will supply winter power to Bhutan and export summer surplus to India, deepening energy ties between the neighbours.
Bhutan has huge untapped hydropower potential, and India is its biggest partner in developing it. The partnership gives India clean power while giving Bhutan export revenue and energy security.
