World’s First Solar Ambulance Completes 800km Kenya Trial

The world’s first solar-powered ambulance has completed an 800-kilometre trial across Kenya’s toughest terrain. Stella Juva was built by 23 students.
Solar Team Eindhoven from the Netherlands designed the vehicle with rooftop and extendable solar panels. It carries an X-ray machine, ultrasound, defibrillator and vaccine fridge.
Tested with Amref Health Africa in the Narok region, the ambulance generated more energy than it consumed while running all its medical equipment at once.
The team covered more than 800km, including a six-hour trek to the remote town of Mosiro. A broken steering rod was fixed in half an hour.
About 200 people could have received care over two days. For remote communities far from hospitals and power grids, it could be a gamechanger.
Goodgreen News called it a potential gamechanger for remote healthcare. The team says the vehicle can operate in an energy-independent manner.
The LinkedIn post by Maimouna Oumarou celebrated the trial’s completion. Ekkow covered the ambulance transforming remote healthcare.
