Ishan Kishan back in Test discussions before New Zealand tour

Chennai, October 6: Ishan Kishan has thrust himself back into Test contention with a massive Duleep Trophy final performance.
Captaining East Zone, the wicketkeeper-batter scored 270 off 334 balls in the final against South Zone. He spent 522 minutes at the crease. He finished as the tournament's top run-getter with 409 runs.
The national selection committee, led by interim chief selector Pragyan Ojha, is expected to meet within 48 hours. It will finalise squads for the T20I, ODI, Test and India A assignments on the New Zealand tour.
Scheduling is tricky. India's tour features five T20Is, two Tests and five ODIs. India A games overlap with the white-ball fixtures, so Kishan may miss the A matches. Dhruv Jurel and Kumar Kushagra could keep wicket for India A instead.
Test regulars including Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal and Sai Sudharsan are expected to play at least one India A game for preparation. Kishan has not played a Test since November 2023.
