Hike for Hope wraps up, honouring Jane Goodall

The first-ever Hike for Hope, honouring conservationist Dr Jane Goodall, has concluded after events across the United States and Canada.
The Jane Goodall Institute called on people to spend time in nature from October 1-4, marking one year since Goodall’s death on October 1, 2025. Official Roots and Shoots Basecamp events were held in Los Angeles, Tampa Bay and Chicago.
In Canada, hikers took to trails, parks and mountains on October 3-4. The event was free to join with no fundraising minimum, though hikers were encouraged to set goals.
Funds raised support community-led conservation in Africa, care for rescued chimpanzees and youth-led environmental projects in Canada, the institute said.
In one of her last recorded messages, Goodall said: “Join the Hike for Hope. Each step is a gentle reminder that each one of us matters and has a role to play.” Organisers said the annual hike will continue her legacy of “hope in action”.
