Fired NOAA staff rebuild climate website Trump shut

Former US government scientists have rebuilt a climate website that the Trump administration shut down. The new site, Climate.us, is now run as an independent nonprofit.
Climate.gov was taken offline in June 2025 under an executive order on scientific research standards. The site had drawn nearly a million visitors a month, according to 2021 figures, and was a trusted source of public climate data.
The rebuild began in August 2025. It is led by Rebecca Lindsey, the former programme director of Climate.gov, along with two former colleagues who were laid off during government cutbacks.
More than 2,500 small donors gave about 250,000 dollars, and over 80 scientists volunteered as reviewers. An anonymous grant provided further support.
Climate.us restores 15 years of content, including news stories, expert blogs, maps and classroom materials. It also brings back the Fifth National Climate Assessment. Lindsey said the goal is a platform the world can rely on for climate communication and education.
