Sale defy red card to stun Saracens 21-17 in Premiership

Sale Sharks survived a first-half red card to beat Saracens 21-17 at StoneX Stadium on October 4, 2026, earning their first Gallagher Premiership win of the season.
Sale played most of the first half short-handed. Alex Lozowski was sin-binned in the 11th minute for a high tackle, and Jacques Vermeulen received a 20-minute red card in the 17th for a dangerous tackle on Tomos Williams. Saracens briefly played against 13 men but could not break through.
Hooker Nathan Jibulu’s early converted try gave Sale a 7-5 halftime lead despite Eroni Mawi’s reply. Tom O’Flaherty then produced the match’s pivotal moment in the 41st minute with a dynamic solo try, and Ben Bamber stretched the lead to 11 points.
Saracens replied through Sione Va’enuku, and Charlie Bracken’s late score set up a tense finish. But Sale’s defence held firm. George Ford kicked two conversions for the visitors in a famous backs-to-the-wall victory.
