Van Dijk on target as Netherlands fight back to draw in Greece

Virgil van Dijk scored on his 99th international appearance as the Netherlands fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Greece in the Nations League on Thursday.
Greece stunned the visitors in Thessaloniki. Fotis Ioannidis put the hosts ahead in the 23rd minute, and Giorgos Masouras doubled the lead just before half-time.
New Netherlands coach Xavi Hernandez made three half-time changes. Van Dijk rose highest to head home a Joey Veerman corner in the 59th minute. Denzel Dumfries had a goal ruled out for offside before Tijjani Reijnders smashed in the equaliser in the 89th minute.
The draw keeps the Netherlands unbeaten under Xavi after three games. Greece stay top of the group with seven points, with the Dutch second on five.
Van Dijk got mixed reviews from the Dutch media despite his goal, with critics pointing at the defence’s first-half display. Liverpool will hope their captain returns fit for the club’s big league fixtures.
