Gold holds near Rs 1.49 lakh per 10g; MCX steady after rally

Gold prices held near record levels on Sunday. In retail markets, 24K gold traded around Rs 1,49,180 per 10 grams, with 22K at about Rs 1,36,750.

In Delhi, 24K gold was priced at Rs 1,49,330 per 10 grams. Prices vary slightly by city because of transport costs and dealer margins. Jewellery buyers also pay 3% GST plus making charges.

On the MCX, gold futures closed at Rs 1,47,724 per 10 grams before the Sunday break. The day’s high was Rs 1,48,150 and the low Rs 1,46,934. Some contracts briefly crossed the Rs 1.50 lakh mark earlier in the week.

The metal has rallied strongly in recent weeks as global investors sought safety. Festive season demand in India is adding to the buying interest.

Analysts say the next triggers will be global cues and currency moves. For buyers, hallmarked jewellery with a valid HUID code remains the safest choice.

Silver also held firm, trading near Rs 1,80,000 per kg in retail markets. Traders say both metals are likely to stay volatile as global markets react to central-bank decisions in the coming weeks.
