EC extends Delhi SIR claims deadline to October 30

The Election Commission has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections under Delhi’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls to October 30.

The decision was taken on September 26 at a meeting at Nirvachan Sadan, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar with Election Commissioners S.S. Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. The earlier deadline was September 30.

The last date for disposal of notices, claims and objections is now November 30. The extension followed a request from Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer.

In a relief for voters, those who received notices over unmapped entries or logical discrepancies will not have to visit election offices. Booth-level officers will collect documents at their homes and upload them on ECINet.

Hearings will be held online in exceptional cases. The poll body has also directed special camps for night-shelter residents, labourers and homeless voters. The SIR exercise is already complete in 20 states and union territories.
