Gambhir slams Guwahati pitch after record 406 chase

India coach Gautam Gambhir criticised the Guwahati pitch after his side completed the second-highest successful run chase in ODI history against the West Indies.
West Indies posted 405 for seven, their highest-ever ODI total, with centuries from John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo. India chased it down with eight wickets in hand in the 44th over to seal the three-match series on September 30.
Shubman Gill scored a double century and Rohit Sharma made a hundred. The 811 combined runs were the third-highest match aggregate in ODI history.
Speaking to Star Sports, Gambhir said there had to be more contest between bat and ball. He said the match was not cricket but only batting, and that he had to have sympathy for the bowlers.
He added that bowlers should not be judged solely on figures on surfaces offering no assistance. Debutant Auqib Nabi conceded 84 runs in nine overs without a wicket.
Gambhir said India have limited time to settle combinations before next year’s 50-over World Cup.
