ACC chief Naqvi skips India-Pakistan Asian Games final

Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi skipped the India-Pakistan men’s cricket gold medal match at the Asian Games 2026. The ACC confirmed on October 2 that he would miss Finals Day “due to prior commitments”.
Naqvi, who also chairs the Pakistan Cricket Board and serves as Pakistan’s interior minister, sent his best wishes to all four teams. The final was played at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin on Saturday.
His absence drew attention because India has refused to accept trophies from him in recent tournaments. The men’s team declined the Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi after the 2025 Dubai final, and the women’s team did the same after winning the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup.
ICC president Jay Shah presented the medals instead, alongside Nisshin mayor Hiroki Kondo and OCA executive board member Nilo Jayatolake. India beat Pakistan by 19 runs, posting 211 for 6 before restricting Pakistan to 192 for 6.
