Centre Marks 28 Ladakh Sites on Official Map

The Centre has formally identified 28 places and geographical features in Ladakh on the official Survey of India map.
The Ministry of Home Affairs made the announcement on October 2. The list includes peaks, glaciers, passes, valleys, rivers and lakes across the Union Territory.
Key locations include Gogra and Hot Spring, which were friction points during the 2020 standoff between Indian and Chinese forces along the LAC. Other names include Zorawar Peak, Parpik Glacier and Chapchingal Pass.
Officials said the move aims to standardise official names and improve accurate recognition of the locations. The list was prepared in consultation with the Ladakh administration.
The government has not described it as a change in territorial status. Analysts see it as a counter to China’s past attempts to rename locations in border regions.
India previously rejected Chinese renaming efforts in Arunachal Pradesh with its own standard lists. The notification adds no new coordinates and changes no ground protocols.
