Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Sunday met a bipartisan US Congressional delegation led by Representative Brian Mast, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The two sides held wide-ranging talks covering the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, or SRIA, and the future path of India-US relations.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the discussions covered the full range of India-US ties, including the recently enacted SRIA law. They also exchanged views on energy security, counter-terrorism and freedom of navigation.

The delegation included lawmakers with different positions on the law. Some co-sponsors backed the bill, while Representative Shri Thanedar had voted against it.

The new law sets up a framework for extra sanctions and trade measures on Russia and Iran. India is studying provisions that could let the US president impose tariffs of up to 100 per cent on imports from countries that keep buying Russian energy.

The meeting took place in New Delhi on September 27, as India continues to assess the implications of the American legislation.
