Two killed, 35 hurt in shooting at Georgia homecoming party

Two men were killed and 35 people injured when gunfire erupted at a homecoming block party in Vienna, Georgia, in the early hours of October 4, 2026. More than 1,000 people had gathered near Pine Street when shots rang out around 1:25 a.m.
The two victims were men aged 20 and 23, Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls confirmed. Their names have not been released. Sheriff Craig Peavy said more than 50 rounds were fired from at least two locations about a block apart.
Deputies were already at the scene monitoring the crowd when the shooting began. Peavy said people scattered in every direction, and some were hit by cars while fleeing. Even with officers present, more gunfire erupted a block away.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the probe with local authorities. No suspect has been identified and no motive announced. The event was not school-sponsored, though it fell on Dooly County High School’s homecoming weekend. Schools reopened Monday with extra safety measures.
