The United States has withdrawn all 12 of its B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford in the UK, a Pentagon official confirmed on Sunday, days after arrests over a suspected terror plot against the base.

The aircraft, which had been used for US strikes on Iran, have redeployed to home stations in the United States. The move came a week after several men were arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts against the base.

Five British nationals in their mid-20s were arrested on September 27 near the base in white vans carrying petrol; a sixth suspect, a dual UK-Iranian national, was arrested on October 1. All were released on bail but remain under investigation.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham said there were “strong indications” of Iranian involvement, which Tehran denied. President Trump said those involved had planned “big damage” and criticised the bail releases. Secretary Rubio called the withdrawal “not unusual” and said it should not be directly tied to the arrests.
