UN Chief Calls for Permanent Gaza Ceasefire

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and greater humanitarian assistance for civilians, according to the day’s international news roundup.
The UN chief has repeatedly urged all sides to protect civilians and allow unhindered aid into the territory. His latest call renews pressure for a lasting end to the fighting.
Humanitarian agencies say the situation in Gaza remains severe, with shortages of food, medicine and fuel affecting millions of residents. Aid groups have asked for safe corridors to deliver supplies.
Diplomatic efforts to secure a durable truce have continued through international mediators. The UN says only a permanent ceasefire can create the conditions for large-scale relief.
The world body is expected to keep the issue on the agenda of its upcoming sessions as member states debate the next steps.
Guterres has made the appeal several times this year as the conflict continues. He has also asked member states to fund the UN’s relief work in the region. Diplomats say the Security Council remains divided on the wording of any binding resolution.
