Trump urges Republicans to vote by mail in reversal

President Donald Trump has urged Republicans to vote by mail in the midterm elections, reversing his long-standing attacks on mail voting. He made the appeal in a Truth Social post on Saturday.
“Republicans must WIN the 2026 Midterm Elections, and we must use every appropriate tool,” Trump wrote, asking supporters to vote early, absentee, by mail or in person to swamp the Democrats with turnout.
Trump has repeatedly claimed without evidence that mail voting is rife with fraud. But he also encouraged his supporters to vote by mail in 2024, and he votes by mail himself.
Last month, the US Supreme Court rejected a Trump administration plan that would have given the Postal Service sweeping authority to restrict and reject mail ballots.
Polls show Democrats’ odds of taking both the House and Senate are improving. In 2024, 37 percent of Democrats and 24 percent of Republicans reported voting by mail, according to MIT’s Election Data and Science Lab.
