Trump doubts Russian plague death is a bioweapon

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he does not believe the death of a Russian laboratory worker is linked to a biological weapon.
“We don’t think so. We’re going to find out soon enough, but we don’t think so,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked about the case. The 28-year-old technician died last week at a Siberian institute that studies plague.
Trump said Russian officials had assured Washington the outbreak was under control. But he noted the secrecy echoed China’s handling of COVID-19 in its early days. “China didn’t say much, and Russia is not saying much either,” he said.
The president said he planned to call Russian President Vladimir Putin about the case. He also said US experts were reviewing the limited information Moscow had shared.
Context: Russia says no plague cases have been found in the Irkutsk region, while the WHO says key questions remain unanswered.
