Trump Blames Iran for flydubai Attack; Vance Disagrees

President Donald Trump said on October 5 that he believes Iran was behind the attack on a flydubai passenger jet. Vice President JD Vance publicly disagreed, saying there is no conclusive evidence.
The incident happened on September 30 aboard flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami, a 29-year-old Omani national, allegedly attacked the Indian captain, Smit Machchhar, with a crash axe during the flight.
Passengers and crew subdued the co-pilot, and a reserve pilot made an emergency landing at Tabuk in Saudi Arabia. More than 170 people were on board. The UAE’s prosecutor general called the attack an attempted terrorist act.
Israeli officials said the co-pilot appeared to have planned the attack before joining flydubai and may have intended to target Ben Gurion Airport. He had flown the Tel Aviv route earlier this year.
Australia is also probing links to the case, since the co-pilot studied in Melbourne about a decade ago. The split between Trump and Vance underscores how little is publicly confirmed so far.
