Trump approves firing squad for Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan

President Donald Trump has approved the execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan by Army firing squad. The Pentagon announced the decision on Monday. It came on the recommendation of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced it on X. “Judgement day for Hasan has finally come,” he wrote. Hegseth responded with a single word: “Justice.”
Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist, killed 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas, in November 2009. Twelve soldiers and one civilian died. Another 32 people were wounded.
A military court sentenced him to death in 2013. He would be the first US service member executed since 1961. The Secretary of the Army will set the time and place of the execution.
The decision follows a botched execution in Tennessee last week. Christa Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital on September 30. She was left alive but unconscious.
The Trump administration has expanded federal execution options. Firing squad, electrocution and gas asphyxiation were added for the gravest federal crimes. The move came after growing problems with lethal injection drugs.
